Bob’s Girls – Still Awesome, Just With Way More Vag
5 Comments Published by AMG October 20th, 2009 in AMG Blog Exclusive, Buried TreasuresBob Mizer may be known for his studies of the male form. In fact, some might even say that Bob wasn’t very fond of women at all. Common knowledge has it that Mizer was a stereotypical, mother worshiping, woman hating homo. Truth be told, he was plenty comfortable with women, and their parts. Don’t get us wrong, Bob was a gay man, through and through, but early in his career he shot a bit of hetero smut to make ends meet. Legend says that Mizer forced the wives and girlfriends of his male subjects to wait outside the compound walls, while he had his way with their lovers. However, photographic evidence shows that, at least on occasion, he welcomed these women in to his studio.
The AMG collection is peppered with photos of women in the nude, performing in beauty pageants, or just giving their men a little moral support, but it’s this video, featuring real straight sex, shot by Mizer in July 1971, that gave us pause. “The Watchman” features a lanky blond marine engaged in real life, hardcore sexual intercourse with a busty brunette. It’s one thing to shoot beauties in bathing suits, another too picture them in the buff, but for Mizer to have shot hetero hardcore goes against everything collectors and experts have always thought. It certainly comes as a shock, but it’s just another example of Mizer’s complexity, and humanity, that has so long been overlooked.

I didn’t see any girls when I visited AMG one Friday night in 1972. But I did know several male models that did always have girls hanging around them. A lot of guys were very conscious of their image in those days and of course many were semi-hetro.
Doug…….Los Angeles
Considering the lack of female company at the AMG compound makes these images even more dynamic. What’s most intriguing, at least to me, are the similarities in the ways that he shot men and women.
Wonder if I have seen Doug in 1972.
That girl took away sweet Blue Max Hensley from us. Sad.
